Weapons & Combat

Nunchaku

The Nunchaku is basically 2 sticks between 8 and 12 inches long joined together with a cord or a chain.

Nunchucks

There are 2 main histories to the Nunchaku. The most well know is that it was a Japanese weapon, developed from a rice flail, and used by peasants.

The other version describes the Nunchaku developing in Okinawa from a horse bit.

What ever the true history, today the Nunchaku is used more as a training and sport weapon than anything else.
In Spirit Combat we use training chuck which is covered with foam and during combat protective head gear is worn.
The Nunchaku is a good tool for learning coordination, timing and distance. What’s more its great fun to!!

Viking Combat

This is a form of combat we teach in Spirit Combat using a padded stick and shield. The idea is to strike your opponent, with control and accuracy as many times as possible whilst defending yourself with your shield.
This is mainly taught to juniors as a way of teaching them how to focus during a competitive encounter. It takes speed, confidence and control to be good at Viking combat!

Combat Jujitsu

As times change so does Spirit Combat. People want competition in marital arts and to reflect that, combat Jujitsu has been introduced into Spirit Combat. jujitsu Due to the fact that in traditional Jujitsu there are no rules, it is very difficult to test your skills in combat. Combat Jujitsu adds rules to what students have learnt and puts them on the mat. As a junior the idea is to start from kick boxing, move into grappling and throwing and then finally pin your opponent.
This is a good test of your skills and weaknesses.

There are regular competitions held in Nunchaku, Viking Combat and Combat Jujitsu.
