Ju Jitsu |
||
First things first. Jujitsu is not a sport. It is a practical and effective self defence system nearly 2000 years old.
Jujitsu literally translated from Japanese means Gentle or Yielding
Art. As such it has a few differences from other arts. The most obvious is its interest in locks and throws. A Samurai wore armour, so strikes were not very effective. Instead an unarmed Samurai had to fight close up and personal. This is not to say that they did not learn striking techniques…these guys liked to be prepared!! Jujitsu is also referred to as a parent art. From it Judo and Aikido developed. As stated earlier Jujitsu is no a sport, it is a very deadly art. |
